Much Recorded Drummer

Rob Emanuel is one of the finest and most recorded drummers in the Detroit region. He counts among his recording credits Kristin Sayers’ rock CD Tripping Over the Sky; the jazz sounds of Messina Madness with Joe Messina; Points of View by Keith Saxton and Kevin Holevar; At Last with Janet Tenaj and Sven Anderson; and Kid Brother by the group of the same name headed by Rich K.

Mystery Manual is the title of Rob’s debut CD as a leader. Art Carnage, his soon-to-be-released CD, showcases the drummer’s performance as well as writing ability. It features jazz saxophonist Bob Mintzer (of Yellow Jackets and Jaco Pastorius fame) and modern piano innovator Uri Caine (player with Don Byron and Dave Douglas). When not recording, Rob has continually appeared with Detroit’s legendary rock/show group Teen Angels; he has also performed with tenor saxist Chris Collins of the Phil Collins Big Band and with the blues band Sharecroppers of Soul.

What this drummer didn’t develop on the stand he gained formally as a student at Hollywood’s Percussion Institute of Technology. Graduating with a Prestigious Honors degree, he was one of a handful of superlative students out of several hundred graduates. His teachers included Joe Porcaro, Ralph Humphrey, Steve Houghton and Ed Soph, percussion specialist at North Texas State.

Today Rob delivers a unique sensitivity to the Brazil style of music. His tasteful restraint on the drum set embellishes the group’s sound as can happen only in the hands of a true artist.
